Telling Myself the Truth

Hearing the lies.the truth

Our natural inclination is to not listen to  truth. Rather, we listen to lies. We begin by believing lies we hear as kids. We reinforce the lies by keeping them alive.

“I’m worthless.”

“She said I’ll never amount to anything, and she must know.”

“My family does not have a good name so that makes me bad.”

“I’m dumb.”

“He said I’m stupid so it must be true.”

We grow up, get married, have friends, and keep hearing lies. We believe the lies. Our employer, coworkers, friends, or spouse say things that we think must be true. After all, they know us. How could they  possibly be wrong?!

Herein lies the problem. We believe the lies others tell us.

Pursuing Truth.

Others don’t know the truth about us; God does. He knows everything about us and He knows our value. Instead of believing lies we hear about ourselves, we must, instead go for the truth.  When our Creator designed and planned for our life, He had a purpose for our existence. We are of great worth. We are valuable.

Stop listening to lies. Stop allowing lies to infiltrate your thoughts. Instead, go for the truth.

When you question your worth, read Psalm 139. Memorize it. Make it part of your mindset.

I memorized this chapter when I was a teenager. The truth in this chapter  changed how I felt about myself. I still go to this chapter when I need to dispel the lies of Satan.

God searches me. He knows me. I am fearfully and wonderfully made. He chose my DNA and it is written down in His book. His works are marvelous. He knows everything about me, and I can never get away from Him.

When you’re discouraged or depressed, when you don’t know who you are anymore, and when you are hopeless, go to the Truth. Do it, because the truth will set you free.
