The Hopes and Fears of all the Years
The end
The end of the year and the beginning of the new. Who could have dreamed the things that would transpire in 2021? Who knew all our hopes and fears? No one else could have known or foreseen – but God. He is enough.
The threshold of another year waits with curtain closed. We cannot look ahead. We can only see – and experience – what lies behind us.
The beginning
Just so it is with this new beginning – 2022. It is a slate, unwritten upon and unseen, as of yet. Still, the silence beckons me to remember the past as I contemplate the future and consider my hopes and dreams. What fears and hopes do you have? What does the future hold? Only One knows – God. He knows. He knows our hopes and fears. God knows them all, and He is already there.
All the years – all the hopes and fears
The song O Little Town of Bethlehem is a song about that little town. Bethlehem means house of bread. Jesus said, “I am the Bread of Life.” In bread, there is sustenance for our souls. Jesus is that sustenance. In that town and in that night, it happened. The requisition of those hopes and fears of the ages are met at the Savior’s birth.
He came to bring Peace, not a sword. Jesus came to set the captives free, to give sight to the blind, music to the ears, and muscles to the lame. Our Messiah came to live – and to die.
In Him is the salvation of our souls. The darkness is vanquished in Him, the Light. The captives are set free because of Jesus. Where the Light has come, peace replaces fear and hope lives forever and reigns supreme and eternal!
