we're not Home yet

On Good Friday, Sunday is Coming!

Sunday is coming, but today is Good Friday.

The best thing about Good Friday is that Sunday is coming.

On that day, I’m sure the disciples and the mother of Jesus felt it was the end of the world instead of the beginning.  If I had been there, I would have felt that way, too.  Surely, it’s easy to think I would have believed – but if none of His disciples did, why would I have believed?  I am certain they were thinking, What good can possibly come of today?!

Of course, they didn’t understand that Sunday was coming!

Except that . . .

  • on that day, Jesus became our perfect sacrifice.  [John the Baptist had told the world earlier, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! –  John 1:29 NKJV]
  • on that day, Jesus showed us how to learn obedience [And although He is the Son, he learned obedience by the fear and the suffering which he endured – Hebrews 5:8 ]
  • on that day, Jesus gave His life.  Nobody took it.  He gave it.   Nobody pried it from Him.  He deliberately chose to give it.  [And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into your hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. Luke 23:46]
  • on that day, and from that Cross, Jesus endured because of the Joy that was His (and ours) to come.  [“. . .  who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2] Jesus obeyed through suffering.
  • on that day, Resurrection was just ahead!  [“Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.”  – John 11:25]

So now . . .

  • on this day, my sins are forgiven [“Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they will be like wool.” Isaiah 1:18]
  • on this day, I, too need to learn obedience through the things I suffer. I need to continue to develop “the mind of Christ.” [Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:  Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God, But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men. And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Phil 2:5-8]
  • on this day, I need to remember that life is not about me and my agenda.  It’s about becoming a living stone. [“You also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.” Philippians 2:5]
  • on this day, I remember the price that was paid for my sins and the sins of the world. [“He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.” I. John 2:2
  • on this day, I celebrate the empty tomb because, even though it’s Friday, I know that Sunday’s coming!

The empty tomb is the greatest symbol the Christian world has. No other faith or religion can boast an empty grave. That empty grave proves that Jesus, our Savior lives!

How about it, friends? Are you experiencing the death of a dream?  Does it feel like Good Friday to you as you are asked to hang your disappointments on the cross?

Remember that even though it’s Friday, Resurrection Sunday is coming!

Sunday is Coming
