From Seeker to Finder
Where is He?
From seeker to finder – those wise men. The journey of the wise men changed them from seekers to finders.
Upon their arrival in Jerusalem, the wise men asked King Herod, “Where is He that is born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the east and have come to worship Him.”
Seeker
They came, seeking. They returned to their own country a different way after becoming finders.
Their journey led them across miles of desert and possibly unknown land. They came to Jerusalem, where one would assume the Messiah would be born. He was not there.
They asked Herod where He was. These Magi were still seeking. They longed to go from seeker to finder; they wanted to find the Child.
We have seen His star
They followed the star as it went before them until it came over the place where the young Child was. By this time, the Baby was a young Child. His family was living, not in a stable, but in a house, somewhere in Bethlehem (the house of bread). The Baby became the Bread of Life for each one of us. Recognizing that He is our Bread of life brings us from seeker to finder.
We have come to worship Him
The purpose of the journey was to find and to worship. They accomplished both when they entered the house where the young Child was. There they found Him. At the feet of the Christ Child, their journey ended. They were now finders.
Their journey ended when they found the One for whom they were searching. Their journey ended when they knelt down at His feet and presented gifts to him: Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh. The best gift of all they could give was their hearts.
They started out as seekers. They ended as finders. These wise men went from seekers to finders. We must do the same.
That is the meaning of Christmas: going from seeker to finder. Find the Savior and ask Him to reside in your heart. The lost will be found, and the light will shine on a new day when you are no longer a seeker, but a finder.
