Homemade Soft Pretzels

A simple soft dough to shape into pretzels. Cheese sauce on the side or a mustard dip make for a great appetizer or snack

- 1 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 Tablespoon yeast
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 cups regular flour
- 2 cups bread flour
- Let dough rise for 20 minutes or longer
- Dissolve 1-2 cups hot water and 2 Tablespoons baking soda for the glaze
- 4 Tablespoons butter melted, mixed with 1 teaspoon pretzel or kosher salt (optional)
Dissolve yeast in water
Mix flours and sugar together
Add yeast in water
Mix into a soft dough
Let rise for 20-30 minutes
Roll out into "logs" and twist into knots or pretzel shapes OR let in long pretzels with two sides twisted together
Place on greased baking sheet
You can sprinkle pretzel/kosher salt on the dough now or add it to your butter at the end
Allow to rise for about 5 minutes
Bake at 450 for 7-10 minutes, until golden brown
Remove from oven and brush with butter/salt
