Homemade Soft Pretzels

A simple soft dough to shape into pretzels. Cheese sauce on the side or a mustard dip make for a great appetizer or snack

Ingredients
  

  • 1 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 Tablespoon yeast
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups regular flour
  • 2 cups bread flour
  • Let dough rise for 20 minutes or longer
  • Dissolve 1-2 cups hot water and 2 Tablespoons baking soda for the glaze
  • 4 Tablespoons butter melted, mixed with 1 teaspoon pretzel or kosher salt (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Dissolve yeast in water
  • Mix flours and sugar together
  • Add yeast in water
  • Mix into a soft dough
  • Let rise for 20-30 minutes
  • Roll out into "logs" and twist into knots or pretzel shapes OR let in long pretzels with two sides twisted together
  • Place on greased baking sheet
  • You can sprinkle pretzel/kosher salt on the dough now or add it to your butter at the end
  • Allow to rise for about 5 minutes
  • Bake at 450 for 7-10 minutes, until golden brown
  • Remove from oven and brush with butter/salt
