Homemade, Homecanned Grape Juice

grape juice

Grape juice, homemade and home canned is the best. Try it on Sunday evening with a batch of homemade popcorn!

This is such an easy recipe, and you can double it to make a concentrate. I can’t tell you what kind of grapes I use, but I get them from my sister-in-laws grape vines and they are delish. I think they might be Concord grapes, but I’m really not sure.

All you need is grapes, sugar, and water. You’ll need canning jars, lids, and rings as well.

Here are your easy, peasy steps:

  1. Wash jars and rings
  2. Wash grapes and put them in jars
  3. Add sugar
  4. Fill jars with boiling water. Stir until sugar is dissolved
  5. Process in hot water bath for twenty minutes.

That’s it, folks.

I have doubled this recipe per jar, so when  I open a jar, I add water to the concentrate. This saves me jar lids and jars. It also saves on canning time because I can do twice as much in the same amount of time!

To do a hot water bath, use a large canner or kettle with a rack in the bottom. Put jars into the canner and cover with water. Bring to a boil and simmer for 20 minutes.

I have used a large kettle and put a towel in the bottom of the kettle. The towel remains wet because it is saturated with water. There is no way the towel can burn! The purpose of the towel or a rack is to provide a buffer for the jars so they do not break during the boiling water process. My mother had a wooden rack, so I know that pieces of wood can work just as well. I realize this is not going to be “recommended” by professionals, but if you have a large kettle and no rack, this works.
