Easter: the Plot Twist

The plot thickens.

The plot twist is unforseen. Good Friday came and went. The disciples hid in fear. Other believers sequestered themselves at home or with friends. The end of a dream happened that night. They buried His body in a tomb owned by Joseph of Arimathea.

The next day? Tears came; mourning continued. It seems they forgot promises made to be kept. They only knew things did not turn out as they hoped – and dreamed. Suddenly, they were left without their leader. Now they needed to find a way to move on. Yet there was no vision, no plan.

Come Sunday morning, women got up early and went to the tomb. Where were the other disciples? Likely hiding behind closed doors. Possibly looking out windows furtively, trying to figure out what was happening next.

The women went to the to tomb to bring spices to anoint the body of their dead Leader. The plot thickened as they wondered how they would get to the body, for the stone rolled in front of the tomb was sealed with a guard. Nevertheless, they went.

The plot twist.

Originally, the disciples thought Jesus would sit on a throne, wearing a crown. Instead, He was given a crown of thorns. The throne didn’t happen; instead, His body lay in a borrowed tomb. Somehow, life had to go on – but how?

The plot twisted when the women arrived at the tomb. Did they see signs of the earthquake on their way to the tomb? We don’t know. Had they felt the tremors of the earthquake during the night? One wonders. Nevertheless, they went to the tomb.

There they found the tomb – and it was empty. An angel gave them the news. Mary met who she thought was the gardener, and ended up worshipping her risen Master. In that instant, she knew the plot twisted – and it was a glorious twist! Hallelujah!

The mystery solved

The love of God is a glorious mystery indeed. Yet, the mystery is solved when Jesus hangs on the cross and dies. It is revealed when the tomb is empty.  We can forevermore be free!
