Air Fried Chicken
An air fryer out of the blue.
Air-fried chicken is one of Dave’s latest favorites at our house. There’s a story behind this air fryer.
Sometimes funny things happen on the way to giving blood. Especially if you live in the south, conversations take surprising turns when you’re eating sandwiches at the canteen after giving blood. You learn that giving blood saves the lives of three people; that drinking plenty to recover lost fluid is important, and that you can tell your kids they have to run the vacuum for you that afternoon since you’ve given blood.
The lady at the canteen entertained me with plenty of conversation, including the fact that she had two air fryers and wanted to find a home for the one. Only problem was, she brought it to the Bloodmobile and set it on a table, hoping someone would ask about it. No one did. She still needed a home for that air fryer, so she gifted it to me.
It sat on my counter for several weeks while I contemplated the possibility of learning a new machine and finding a place to store it. I also needed to google how to use it, since my machine came without a manual.
A simple recipe for air fried chicken
Once I got my mind in gear and decided I wanted to use it, I came up with this recipe. You want healthy and crunchy? You’ve got it with this recipe.
You can use boneless chicken breasts or boneless thighs for this air-fried chicken. I’m sure you can use bone-in, but it will take longer. Slice the breasts horizontally so they are thin. Dip in buttermilk, sprinkle with garlic powder if you’d like, and coat with corn flakes.
Then put them into the air fryer and set it at 400. Depending on the size of your chicken pieces, set it for 5-8 minutes; turn the pieces over and repeat. Serve.
That’s all there is to it. This air-fried chicken recipe is crunchy and tasty at the same time – and healthy than doing it in the oven. It is also quicker and saves the heat for another time.
Now, if you don’t own an air fryer, you can do them in the oven. I recommend 350-400 until done.
