Be Full of Salt – & Have Peace with Each Other
Full of salt
Jesus used the analogy of salt to help believers understand the importance of cleansing, preserving, giving thirst, and flavoring. He said, “Salt is good, but if the salt has lost its saltiness, how will you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.”
Salt is important and valuable. It purifies, preserves, flavors, and creates thirst. Without salt, the world would be dirty and tasteless. Jesus said we must be the salt of the earth and to do so we must be full of salt.
Good salt makes a person thirsty. It cleans out and purifies a wound from infection. Salt preserves food and makes it last longer. It adds flavor to food and to life. A salty person is a good thing. We can’t do Kingdom work unless we are salty.
Our lives should exhibit these attributes. We should exhibit thirst for God and our lives should make others thirsty for God. When we allow God’s Word to cleanse and preserve us, our lives will make others desire to be cleansed. The way we live adds flavor to our lives and makes others long for the flavor of Jesus. That’s what it means to be full of salt.
Have peace with each other
When we have met those salty requirements, we will experience peace with each other. It’s true that salt can burn a wound – but in the burning, it provides cleansing and healing. That’s what our lives should do.
When we clean up our own act, clean up ourselves and our attitude, we are salt. A salty person has peace with others.
When we are aloof from others, when there is discord, or when we’re no longer connecting with our fellow believers, it’s time to get salty. In his letter to the church at Colossae, Paul tells the believers, “Let your speech/conversation be gracious, seasoned with salt.”
When our lives, conduct, and speech is gracious and seasoned with salt, we will have peace with each other. If there is conflict and lack of peace, check your speech, and check your salt. You’ll be glad you did.
