When Trust is all You Can Do
Trust the God of no surprises
Sometimes it is difficult to trust Him, in times when difficulties arise and life is so hard and so barren.
There are days life stirs up trouble – trouble that we didn’t see coming, but God did. Troubles – unforeseen and unplanned – come into our world, leaving us upside down, twisted, torn, and worn. And God saw it coming.
You know what He wants us to do? He wants us to trust Him.
When things seem out of control and are out of our control, He wants us to believe Him, because He is not surprised or dismayed.
Trust the God of answers
Sometimes there are no immediate answers or quick-fixes to what we face. He still wants us to trust Him. Our prayers are unanswered while the choices others make bring heartache and grief.
When it’s hard, He still expects our reliance on Him. When it’s too dark to see, He sees the way. He wants to lead us and guide us, but to do that, we must be willing to believe that He knows the way and He is leading us. It is so hard. Yet is there any other way to journey with Him than to know His answers will come in His time?
Trust over Trace
Over and over, I’ve clung to these words: When you can’t trace His hand, trust His heart.
As 2021 approaches, that’s what I want to do. It is impossible, sometimes, to trace His hand. Life makes no sense. There’s so much brokenness, despair, and pain with no end in sight.
Yet, I can trust His heart. He promises to work all things together for our eternal good and His eternal glory. He promises, and He does not break His promises. His love does not change.
When life is unbearable, and when all is bleak and dark, He asks us to show our faith. He asks us not to be afraid to follow Him. When life doesn’t make sense and when we can’t see His hand, we can still trust His heart.
The song
This song speaks powerfully to trusting a known God to an unknown future.
Though sometimes we don’t see
How they could.
Struggles that break our hearts in two
Sometimes blind us to the truth.
His ways are not our own.
So when your pathway grows dim
And you just don’t see Him,
Remember you’re never alone.
God is too good to be unkind.
So when you don’t understand,
When don’t see His plan,
When you can’t trace His hand,
Trust His Heart
Trust His Heart
And he holds our future in His hand,
So don’t live as those who have no hope.
All our hope is found in Him.
But He sees the first and the last.
And like a tapestry He’s weaving you and me,
To someday be just like Him.
God is too good to be unkind.
So when you don’t understand,
When don’t see His plan,
When you can’t trace His hand,
Trust His Heart.
He alone knows what is best for you.
God is too good to be unkind.
So when you don’t understand,
When don’t see His plan,
When you can’t trace His hand,
Trust His Heart.
When you don’t see His plan,
Trust His Heart.
Trust His Heart.

I love this song. I first heard it on the radio in Saginaw, MI when our daughter was hospitalized there for glioblastoma. The LORD took her, leaving behind two small children, a husband, parents and four brothers. This song has ministered to me in my deepest need and I can truthfully say I trust God’s wisdom for taking her and I am glad he allowed us to enjoy her for 25 years. PTL
Thank you for sharing your story and testifying to the faithfulness of God. What a legacy you are leaving her children! We need to tell the stories of God in our lives. Bless you for sharing.
I started to read your posts this year and have been blessed many times over. The heart of this post could have been written by me. “…the choices of others bring heartache and grief…”
Thank you for reminding me that God is neither surprised or dismayed at any happening. And that He remains in control.
Thank you for sharing! Thank you for your faithfulness in trusting Him when life does not make sense. Bless you as you continue to walk unknown paths with the One Who loves you more than anyone.
