No One but Jesus

Transfiguration.

Jesus had twelve disciples; three were his closest friends. One day, Jesus takes these three – Peter, James, and John – to a mountain. Here, He is transfigured. The three disciples see Elias and Moses talking with their Master. We call this the mount of Transfiguration.

Peter – ever the disciple with a voice and ideas –  wants to build three tabernacles, one each for Moses, Elias, and Jesus. At his suggestion, Jesus is immediately covered in a cloud as a Voice speaks from Heaven. The disciples are afraid and fall on their faces. [I’m sure I’d be afraid and fall on my face, too.]

The Voice says: “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased. Hear ye Him.”

When the bright cloud and Voice are gone, Moses and Elias are also gone. The disciples see there is only Jesus. Their Master is there, and that is enough. He tells them to put away their fear and get up.

No one but Jesus

Life is full of twists and turns. We experience unending heartache and grief. There are questions for which there are no answers.

Other days, the sun shines, music is joyful, and laughter is endless. We think we can conquer any mountain.

I know this: after days of sunshine, dark clouds are guaranteed. Satan wants nothing better than to defeat us.

On those dark days, I look for Him. When I take my eyes off Moses and Elias, Jesus is all that is left. When I take my eyes off the burdens and crises I face and look to Him, I see no one but Jesus.

He tells me to drop the fear and get up. When I obey, I see only Him.

He is enough. Jesus is all I need.

I hope you find it so with you!
